Q&A:

The following answers were provided by Jimmie Davis III running for Council District 7 in St. Tammany Parish:

1. What do you think is the single most important drainage issue in your district and what are your proposals to solve and fund it?

Drainage Culvert size inspection, removal and installation.

I intend to have Public Works/ Engineering department review the current culvert size requirements needed for drainage flow efficiency.

Public works can then remove and install culverts with only the cost of the culvert to be the responsibility of the land owner.

2. What is your definition of economic development in St. Tammany Parish? What criteria should be used in granting property tax exemptions and what property tax exemptions do you support?

Balancing citizen growth with appropriate business needs. Increase of population – increase in food,  heath care and auto care establishments.

I do not isupport granting any property tax exemptions to businesses.

3. Should the parish government acquire, operate and maintain private sewage and water systems?  Why or why not?

No.

The past purchase of St.Tammany Utilities has demonstrated an ineffective solution due to older equipment which requires more maintenance and/or replacement.

4. Heavy rain events are becoming more frequent and severe.  How has this impacted your district?  What are your plans for mitigating the effects?

More frequent flooding has occured.

Utilize parish owned property/servitude areas for possible retention pond or drainage ditch creation.
